The Meadow is currently exhibiting works by Roger Hallin. The body of Hallin’s work on display includes nude drawings in charcoal and Conté crayon on gesso and paper. Other pieces by Hallin include oil paintings and watercolors. Come by any time during our normal business hours to view works on display, or call 503-388-4633 to arrange a private tour.

“This is my first show of small pocket book sketches, done during my practicing years in Portland, Oregon at Good Samaritan Hospital doing Vascular Surgery. It was at the suggestion of my fourth child, landscape architect artist Ingrid, that I selected these works at random from the many stored in boxes in the attic, the studio and the darkroom. They are self-explanatory—largely an effort to train myself to draw, with limited time available to devote to the effort.

“One of my early serious instructors, Jeff Tester, tutored me… ‘Carry a sketchbook, get yourself a Bijou Box’ (referring to a Windsor &Newton water tight metal box 15/32 X 1 ¾ X3 5/8 “ with 12 - ½ “ watercolor cakes and space for a useless brush and a ring to slip your thumb through). Someone seeing this small collection might say, ‘I could do this,’ and it is in this spirit that it is offered; i.e., jump in, get started, use those elusive scraps of time to your advantage, now.”
