Salt Grater & Complimentary Pink Rock
Microplane salt shavers are perfect for grating Himalayan salt on to your favorite foods. Shaving your salt makes a super-fine powder of salt. Microplane calls this a “Sea Salt Shaver,” which is funny because they are intended for salts specifically NOT coming from the sea. Regardless, Microplane has done their homework and made a salt rock grater that is as effective as it is stylish. The salt shaver comes with one small rock of 600 million year old Himalayan salt with our compliments. This salt shaver by Microplane is dishwasher safe, with all shaving components made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel. Please hand wash cover. Rinsing in warm water after each use recommended. Remove trapped particles from the non-sharp side whenever possible. To remove trapped particles on the front, first soak the tool in warm water and then use a cleaning brush to stroke in the same direction as the teeth. This has a sharp blade, so please keep fingers clear of blade while removing safety cover. Keep blade covered when not in use.
Mull this over as you shave a rock of Himalayan salt onto duck-fat fried parsnips or an arugula salad topped with candied hazelnuts: Himalayan pink rock salt emerges from the darkness of a 16th century quarry in Pakistan and explodes into light, catching and refracting the sun in hues ranging spring water clear to hibiscus pink to venison red. Our Himalayan Pink salt, formed from the evaporation of a great inland sea hundreds of millions of years ago, is utterly free of any impurities from the modern world. The high quantity of trace minerals (1.2% sulfur, .4% calcium, .35% potassium, .16% magnesium, and 80 other trace minerals) impart a more mild and full taste to your food. Cut into blocks, Himalayan salt can be heated on the stove to sauté scallops or thinly sliced hanger steak. As a natural rock, it is the ideal salt for shaving for heartier foods like lamb, beef, and game—and paradoxically, it’s also great with the most delicate foods, like fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, rice dishes, salads, and soups. Try it on chocolate or pistachio ice cream!
